June 24, Rained hard in the night.
The Smokies are known for rain in the summer… it could clear up. Meantime we are going on to North Carolina, to Ashville perhaps to get $$ and to Charlotte to a Motel 6 if it has room… My sister is calling at this very moment.
I did not sleep too well last night, I’m afraid. So I need some coffee to stay awake.
12 noon – Went for a short nature walk, saw white tail Virginia deer. My sister has an eagle eye. Also took an interesting tour through an old farm area.
Night in Charlotte, North Carolina. Arrived about 8 p.m. after traveling over 230 miles through Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains. We’re in a Motel 6. Thank goodness. A dry night, at least inside.
Sounds like you whizzed by Asheville. What a shame. it’s beautiful there.
We whizzed by too many things… in too much of a hurry to get home… short of time, short of money, eager to get out of that tiny car! But I should go back someday. It really was beautiful country.
We drove through the Appalachians…kind of scary…with all the shot out signs…I was glad to finally come upon some “civilization” and drive out of the dark woods and off the winding roads.
