The other day, Ron Paul, Senator from Kentucky held forth in a filibuster for 13 hours!!! His point was political and after it was all said and done he was pleased with the result. I’m not questioning his politics, though there is a lot to question…. but it got me thinking.
If you had a point you wanted to make, could you do it, standing and talking for 13 hours without much of a break? (I think he had minor 2-3 minute pauses when another speaker would interrupt… but only for a very few minutes.) It’s quite a feat. I think my voice box would give out and I’d end up with hand signals.
Thirteen hours. You’ve got to be really dedicated to your position to pull it off. Maybe I could do it if the cause was great and my commitment deep… but I can’t think of anything at the moment that would cause me to babble on for more than an hour, much less 13.
Does this mean I’m a shallow person?
That’s child’s play…I teach fifth grade…every day its a filibuster!
what a challenge!!!! Perhaps you could teach the kids about filibustering and let them take over once in a while… that would be interesting. 🙂
My bladder would rebel…big time
Bladder control would be my biggest concern… I wouldn’t last more than two hours!!!
