June 18 – 9:20 a.m. Ranchero Camp Ground
One thing you can say about Ranchero, New Mexico: “Lots of ants!” My sister claims they tore her nightgown to shreds!!!
10:40 a.m. Pit stop for Coffee!!!
10:50 a.m. Battery wire loose again. My sister is a whiz at fixing it! Dad would be proud!
Raining out – not sure how long this is to keep up. If it’s too wet, we hit a motel. Stopped at Stuckey’s Ugly Parlor (Editor’s note: not real name… I think the place was so bad I was forced to rename it.) I couldn’t finish my hamburger. We got STUCK at STUCKEY’s!
It’s now raining in the car too! Through the sun roof!
Estimating Santa Fe to Amarillo… 42 miles to Climes Corners, 154 miles to the Texas border along Route 40, 80 miles to Palo Duro Canyon State Park… should take us 6 hours.
5:46 p.m. Just entered Oklahoma! Texas was a disappointment. Lots of rain and of course Stuckey’s! We are traveling a lot further than we had planned. I’m reading detective stories to my sister and it makes the time go by faster.
