Glass, Water and That Florida Look

Last night I had a hard time sleeping. “What’s new?” you ask.

I try to distract myself with a simple game of backgammon before I go to bed… I don’t often win against the computer, but once in a while I get lucky… then I try the radio, and finally, when I am really desparate, I turn on “sleep machine” — a small ap on my smart phone that plays “white noise” to soothe my spirit…. My favorite noise is the sound of waves on a beach combined with a far off rain storm with a touch of thunder… I huddle down under my comforter and imagine myself in a safe place.

Last night though two hours into my night I woke up thirsty, reached for my bedside water bottle and “wham” it fell over, sending my eyeglasses to the floor. This has happened before and I knew if I didn’t find the eyeglasses immediately I was sure to stomp on them later when I headed to the loo in the night.

It took a while, but I found them. One lens had popped out and slid across the floor. I’m nearly blind without my glasses so it took me several minutes of slowly feeling my way across the rug, rubbing and smoothing the carpet, trying to find the missing lens. I finally hit it with my knee, which sent it flying off again. But at least I knew it wasn’t far under the bed.

urlBy now it was 3:15 a.m. I wasn’t about to start popping lenses into eyeglass frames at that hour, but I knew I had to do something. Aha! My second pair! I remembered that when I purchased this current pair of glasses I had got a second pair as a backup, using an older frame with a very Florida look. Gold with some filigree… kind of thick and very … what can I say… very “rich b…..tch!” — at least to my mind…

It’s not exactly my usual LL Bean look— I don’t know what I was thinking when I bought them a few years back. Must have been going through a phase! But, hey, until I get the first pair fixed, I shall intimidate the world with my “rich b….tch!” facade. Not much else I can do.

Watch out world, I’ve arrived.

I feel your pain! I’ve hit my water bottle at 3am and sent my specs flying, too! It made me so mad to have to get up and search for them! Lol!
